China Radio International in Russian on 6100 kHz: the evening hour from Beijing
The evening edition of CRI's Russian service, 19:00 to 20:00 UTC on 6100 kHz with 500 kW from Beijing, following the five-hour afternoon block on 5905 kHz from Kashi. Same programme, different transmitter.
What you hear
The Russian service of China Radio International from 19:00 to 20:00 UTC: news from Beijing at the top of the hour, then the same features, lessons and music as in the afternoon block. At 20:00 UTC the service moves to 6155 kHz for a further hour.
Who transmits and why
The service, its history and the afternoon block from Kashi are described in the main article. The evening hour differs in one respect: it comes from the Beijing transmitters with 500 kW, five times the daytime power, because by now the path to European Russia is long and entirely dark.
When and where to listen
6100 kHz is in the 49 metre band, and at 19:00 UTC the band is open over the whole path from Beijing to Europe. With half a megawatt behind it, the signal is strong in Russia from the Far East to Moscow and good in Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltics. From central and western Europe it is usually readable and often strong, which the daytime block from Kashi rarely is; Finland, Poland and Germany are good places for a receiver. If a neighbour on 6095 or 6105 kHz is loud, narrow the filter or pick the sideband away from it.
