What you hear

The same programme as on 855 kHz: Radio România Actualități, the news and current-affairs network of Romanian public radio, in Romanian, with news on the hour and the familiar interval signal. The programme and the broadcaster are described in the main article; this entry is about the second frequency.

Who transmits and why

The 1152 kHz transmitter serves Transylvania from the Cluj area, according to the catalogue, one of several regional outlets alongside 1179 kHz at Bacău, 558 kHz at Târgu Jiu and 756 kHz at Lugoj. Since August 2025 all Romanian medium- and long-wave transmitters have run from 06:00 to 22:00 local time at half their former power, which for 1152 kHz means roughly 03:00 to 19:00 UTC in summer and 04:00 to 20:00 UTC in winter.

When and where to listen

Medium wave carries far only after dark, and in winter the last three or four hours of the schedule fall in darkness, so from Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia and Poland the Cluj signal is a reasonable evening catch; in summer it signs off soon after sunset. 1152 kHz is a crowded channel, and from western Europe a station from Spain or Britain is more likely. A receiver in Hungary or Romania is the right choice; the two frequencies carry the same audio, so tune the louder one.
